Talk about “old school”! Here’s a link to building your own working replica of the Apollo 11 LEM guidance computer. It took John Pultorak, who is a 54 year old Lockheed Martin software engineer, 4 years to build and program it in his basement. He even documented the construction and posted the plans here. The computer contained a whopping 4k of RAM!

New G1 cellphone impresses ...

I just purchased a new cell phone plan with T-Mobile. My new phone, purchased as part of the plan, is a T-Mobile G1, otherwise known as the “Google Phone”.

What do I think of the phone? I like it a lot It has enormous potential, and a lot of that potential is locked up in the open source Android operating system. It’ll be interesting to see what apps the Linux guys produce for the phone. More after I finish playing with my new toy …

From the EcoFont Site: The prints we make for our 'daily use' not only use paper, but also ink. According to SPRANQ creative communications (Utrecht, The Netherlands) your ink cartridges (or ink toner) could last longer. SPRANQ has therefore developed a new font: the Ecofont.

The Ecofont is a typeface with tiny holes in the characters. The holes don’t reduce legibility, but they do reduce the amount of toner/ink used. The fonts are True Type, so they should work on almost all recent operating systems.

One other thing — they’re free!

New Furby model released, time for Furby hacking?

Just heard Hasbro will be releasing an upgraded Furby! Still have two have two of the original models, but I only hear from them when the cats knock them over. Then they start to sing their start-up songs, otherwise they just discharge AA batteries

The new model has double the memory, can recognize voices, and mimic facial expressions. Unfortunately the memory isn’t expandable. Imagine a Furby with an SD memory slot!
